Even if, from some subjective criteria, the Faculty of Medicine of Constanţa may be considered a very young one, today is one the most dynamic and ambitious among the other Romanian medical schools.
Aiming, as principal mission, the provision of the best possible education and training in health sciences, the Faculty of Medicine of Constanţa prepares students from around the world, in order to be relevant to the needs of society today and in the future.
The Faculty of Medicine Constanţa is a state medical school that was founded, as a distinctive and independent structure of the University "Ovidius" Constanţa, under the name of Faculty of General Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy in 1990, by the HGR no. 225/7.03.1990 and the Order no. 7424 from 20.03.1990.
The first accreditation was granted in 1995, by the HGR no. 568/16.08.1995.
The re-accreditation was granted in 2002, by the HGR no. 944/11.09.2002.
Also in 2002, the Faculty of General Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy divided in the Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Dentistry and Pharmacy. In 2007, the Faculty of Dentistry separated from the Faculty of Pharmacy, both becoming independent one from another.
Since its beginning, the Faculty of Medicine has undergone through progressive and remarkable landmarks.
In 1999 was started the Medical College, with specializations in General Medicine (Nurses), Clinical Laboratory, Balneophysiotherapy, Dental Technique and Pharmacy.
In 2004 was inaugurated the Faculty of Midwives, with a four years study program.
In 2007 was inaugurated the Faculty of Nurses, also with a four years study program.
Both 4 years faculties are in full concordance with the demands and regulations of the European Union curricula.
One of the most important events in the Academic life of the Faculty of Medicine Constanţa took place in October 2008 when, under the auspices of the President of Romania, it was inaugurated the new Campus of the Faculty, the largest and the most modern in Romania and South-East Europe, with a developed surface of about 12000 m².
Since 1993, the Faculty of Medicine started the modules of teaching in English and French language at all levels and specializations, both undergraduate and postgraduate.
In present, more than 200 foreign students are enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate study in English medium. Some examples of countries of origin consist of: India, Sri Lanka, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, France, USA, Great Britain, Nigeria, Cameroon, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria and many more.
